Summer School

Archanes, 2-6 September 2024

scope

The summer school is meant to give an introduction to matterwave optics to early PhD students and post-docs. It serves as a preparation to the conference. The summer school combines lectures by renown experts in the field with poster-sessions where the students present their projects to each other.

focus

This year’s FOMO summer school will go back to basics with a solid introduction to matterwave optics and atomtronics.

location

The Summer School of FOMO 2018 will be in the ancient village of Archanes, close to Heraklion, Crete. The origins of the Archanes date back more than five millennia to the Minoan period (This is where the pottery used in the labyrinth of Knossos were made).

The village itself is beautifully restored with a lovely central square. There are state of the art conference facilities. Students will be housed in a few small hotels in the village.

venue

Next to the village square there is a state of the art conference center for about 50 participants. Food will be served on the square.

accommodation

At the Summer School registration we will provide you with a list of recommended accommodation for the summer school and for the conference, where we have negotiated special prices. Most are within walking distance. A bus service will be provided in the morning and evening.

There will be a number of scholarships available thanks to the ONR. Recipients will be required to attend both the summer school and the conference.
