Onur Hosten (Speaker at FOMO2021)
Onur Hosten is head of the Quantum Sensing with Atoms and Light Group at the Institute of Science and Technology Austria (IST Austria). He received his PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and then worked as a postdoc and Research Associate at Stanford University, Palo Alto. His group aims to develop innovative techniques to control quantum properties of atomic and optical systems with an eye towards applications in the domain of precision sensing. By manipulating the collective properties of cold atomic ensembles in optical cavities, the group intends to build precision sensors of time, force, acceleration, and in the process gain more insight into foundational aspects of quantum mechanics.
